This section shall apply to each superintendent of a correctional facility appointed on or after August 9, 1975, and any superintendent theretofore appointed who elected to be covered by the provisions thereof by filing such election with the Commissioner of Correctional Services.
(a)Effective July 1, 1980, the salary schedule for such superintendents shall be as follows:

(b)Effective January 1, 1981, the salary schedule for such superintendents shall be as follows:
