Engineering legal intelligence from the source up.
LawEngine is a founder-led legal technology company building systems that connect legal questions, citations, source records, receipts, deterministic checks where covered, and attorney review into one coherent engine.
Founded by Stephen Murphy.
LawEngine was founded by Stephen Murphy, a mechanical engineer and mathematician with an MBA from the University of Chicago and multiple first-place finishes in machine-learning and AI competitions, including a worldwide first-place Google award for deploying a Gemma 3n model on-device on NVIDIA Jetson edge hardware.
The company also comes from firsthand contact with the legal system. As a pro se litigant in Illinois, Stephen learned how much turns on records, rules, dates, citations, and the ability to prove what happened. That work included successfully petitioning for a change to Illinois Supreme Court Rule 703, amended effective April 1, 2026. LawEngine is the system he wished existed: data, machine learning, and systems engineering coded around the details that decide whether a legal claim can be checked, traced, and trusted.
What we stand for
Grounded truth over generated confidence.
Logic, source records, receipts, and repeatable checks before persuasion.
Systems engineering applied to legal information at production depth.
Benchmarks, boundaries, and reviewable evidence whenever a claim matters.
Build with us.
LawEngine is actively growing. We are looking for people who mirror our values in grounded truth, repeatable checks, source records, and systems engineering. The work is ambitious: build legal technology that can show where its claims come from.
