(a)New fire detecting systems shall be provided with fire detecting devices designed to operate on one or both of the following principles:
(1)Fixed temperature.
(2)Rate-of-rise.
(b)Fire detecting devices are classified into the following types:
(1)Spot devices in which thermostats are provided at specific locations.
(2)Continuous line devices such as fire detecting wire or pneumatic tubing, in which the thermal sensitive element is continuous.
