This section establishes the requirement for residence of members of the permanent staff (other than stenographic or clerical) of the district offices, made necessary by their responsibilities preparatory to, during and subsequent to a natural disaster or civil defense emergency.

For the purpose of this section residence shall mean living in the prescribed area with intent to make it a fixed and permanent home and consequently to be physically and readily available in the event of a natural disaster or civil defense emergency.

Persons appointed to positions (other than stenographic or clerical) on the permanent staff of a district office shall, within 60 days subsequent to permanent appointment, establish residence within 30 miles of the permanent district office location to which they are appointed.

If any person permanently appointed to a position (other than stenographic or clerical) on the permanent staff of a district office either fails to establish or fails to continue his residence within the prescribed area, it shall be cause for discharge from his position by the appointing authority.
